With service-oriented architecture (SOA) growing in popularity and becoming less of a buzz word, about 50 per cent of new mission-critical operational applications and business processes designed in 2007 will use SOA and in more than 80 per cent by 2010, according to a recent study conducted by Gartner Inc. "Every single major vendor applications and every single piece of business infrastructure including integration middle-ware management and security platforms have been SOA-enabled by vendors," said Frank Kenney, research director for Gartner.
With SOA adoption increasing, it has benefits not only to end users but vendors as well.
"It allows vendors to be flexible and agile and to quickly and more frequently provide updates and more functionality to their products," said Kenney.
