Web Services: Paving the Way to SOA
|
“Web Services” comprise a body of standards and protocols that have become vital in the drive toward SOA, as they define how services interact in business transactions. Earlier fears were that Web Services might be CORBA revisited or client/server reborn. This group of interfaces and protocols, however, are opening up telecom applications to the outside world and will perhaps move telecom toward SOA.
The key to achieving SOA is loose coupling, componentization and orchestration facilitated by Web Services. This is significant to telecom’s future because the next wave of services will rely on applications from developers outside of telecom. Web Services’ collection of standards create a common denominator among execution and operations environments so that applications can be created to represent reusable business operations at all processing levels
