Yesterday we learned that the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) had voted to graduate ServiceMix from the Apache Incubator to the status of a "top-level project" (TLP). This means that ServiceMix will leave the Apache Incubator and will be an "Apache Project" just like Apache ActiveMQ or any other Apache-based development effort.
This is very good news for the ServiceMix team, and they deserve congratulations for the years of effort they have invested into ServiceMix. Of course, graduating from the Apache Incubator is not a technical endorsement -- it is recognition by the ASF that a project team has demonstrated diversity, open communications and processes, and a commitment to the ASF's principles regarding intellectual property and open source development.
In addition, IONA principal engineer Guillaume Nodet has been elected to be the Project Management Committee Chair for the ServiceMix Project. Anyone who has been involved with ServiceMix knows Guillaume's boundless energy and commitment to making ServiceMix a success, so this is a well-deserved recognition of his efforts.
Of course, we at IONA Technologies are pleased about both of these developments. We recognized the value of the ServiceMix project at Apache and the quality of the team. We are proud to have built an open source product and service offering around them. But today we want to focus on recognizing the accomplishments of Guillaume and the entire ServiceMix team. Please join us in congratulating them.
